MANNA AT DAYBREAK Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you . . . . And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord. Ex. 16:4-7. Let us take these words of promise out of their historic setting and framework in the record of God's daily provision for Israel in the wilderness. Let us consider this spiritually to be God's approach to us. Christmas is over, and the new year is here. We have wished our friends and loved ones a happy Christmas and a happy new year. Let us put our wishes into action. With the dawn of every new day for this coming year there waits to speak to us a voice from God: "Behold I make all things new." Consecrate yourself to Him anew every morning. Do it as definitely as if you have never done it before. Pray every morning before you do anything else. God will make all things new and fresh and fair. We need God. We need the resources of the Holy Spirit. Every time we pray and read the Word of God we wait for God to speak to us. God waits to respond to us. The princes of Babylon conspired against Daniel. As Daniel talked with God, communed with God, the Lord inspired in him the ability to rely entirely on divine power, so that when he was cast into the den of lions he had no fear and no anxiety. Each day we are to get ready for the temptations and the crises of life before they get ready for us. Are you thirsty each morning for one cool draught of God's presence and power to clear the heart and mind? Our minds can be trained to feel our daily need of God. We can accustom our lungs to pure air. We can so habituate ourselves to God's love and presence that we are ready each day for everything that comes our way. We can be sure of God. Each morning we discover simple courage because God is there. He makes us faithful and true. He inspires us to steadfastness. We are to glory in His truth, righteousness, and love; in His grace, His kingdom, and His soon return. This is the atmosphere we are meant to breathe, the spiritual food we are to eat. |
